In Our Communities

Annual Wolfson Bass Fishing Tournament
HCCU was proud to participate in the annual Wolfson Bass Fishing Tournament this past May. The Wolfson tournament has grown from an informal but impressive competition of 265 boats in 1990 to a series of three tournaments fished over three days out of the municipal marina in Palatka. The annual event continues to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in support of Wolfson's ongoing efforts to treat children from across the Southeast and train others to continue the effort.
CARES (Community Achieving Reaching Educating Succeeding)
This is our community outreach group. It consists of HCCU employees and serves to assist and support our community. CARES holds events throughout the year, involving the entire HCCU staff and its membership.
8th Street Sanctuary
The HCCU CARES committee organized multiple collection drives for this safe, after school program for kids. Staff of HCCU also joined the kids as hosts of a special Valentine's Day party and collected educational materials for their Back to School supply drive.
Scrubs Night Out
Joining host radio station, LITE 96.1, HCCU participated at the annual Scrubs Night Out event held this past spring at Urban Flats restaurant. Healthcare professionals from all over the city showed up for a night of fun, food, music and prizes. HCCU has been a loyal supporter of Scrubs Night Out since it's inaugural event in 2009.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
Organized by the CARES committee, staff and members of HCCU came together to support this local walk put on by the American Cancer Society. Employees participated in the walk one Saturday this past October, and the entire HCCU team sold pink ribbons at all of their Jacksonville offices to benefit the cause.
Healthy, Wealthy, & Wise
HCCU's annual health & information fair returned this past October as local businesses and healthcare centers set up shop in the lobby of HCCU's main office. Free health screenings (glucose, cholesterol screenings, eye exams, blood pressure checks, massages, etc) were offered onsite in addition to a wealth of free information (energy conservation tips, safety tips, big-box discounts, etc)! The day-long event was open to all HCCU members, and turned out to be a great success!
